Dick's message reminded retailers that if their same store 1st quarter 1999 TOTAL merchandise sales aren't at least 6% higher than last year, chances are that store is going backwards in real-growth terms, considering the approximate 24% cigarettes price increase passed on by tobacco manufacturers in late November, 1998
