Cigarettes Marketing Dynamics
as presented at Ohio Petroleum Marketers Association & Ohio Association of Convenience Stores Annual Meeting
Columbus, OH - April 13, 1999
These 66 slides present a comprehensive analysis of cigarettes marketing dynamics facing convenience stores in 1999. Armed with tobacco trends data through 1998, Dick Meyer discussed his six "Cs" that impact cigarettes retailing.
The six C's include: Consumption issues, C-Store profits, Competition, Category management ideas that work (and those that frustrate traffic flow), Consumer thoughts (about the smoker), and Controls - how to monitor cartons like gallons!
Dick's message reminded retailers that if their same store 1st quarter 1999 TOTAL merchandise sales aren't at least 6% higher than last year, chances are that store is going backwards in real-growth terms, considering the approximate 24% cigarettes price increase passed on by tobacco manufacturers in late November, 1998
